Veteran Educator Margo Bellamy Officially Files for Re-Election to
Anchorage School Board Seat A

Anchorage, AK — Margo Bellamy, a lifelong educator and strong advocate for equity in education, officially filed today to seek re-election to Seat A on the Anchorage School Board. With over four decades of experience in public education and a proven track record of leadership, Bellamy is running to continue championing policies that prioritize student success and instructional equity in the Anchorage School District.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the educators, families, and students of Anchorage,” Bellamy said. “While our district has faced significant challenges, particularly with attracting and retaining educators caused by years of the Alaska Legislature’s underfunding of public education, I remain steadfast in my belief that every student deserves the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential, regardless of their individual needs, personal circumstance, or any human differences. I’m running for re-election to continue this important work.”

During her tenure, Bellamy has been a key driver of several transformative initiatives, including supporting the Alaska Reads Act, developing a cornerstone student-centered strategic plan, and collaborating on efforts to address budget deficits while minimizing classroom impacts. Her leadership has consistently emphasized transparent governance and inclusive decision-making.

As the current President of the Alaska Children’s Trust Board of Directors, Past President of the Alaska Association of School Boards, Member of the Council of Great City Schools, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Alaska at Anchorage, Bellamy is deeply embedded in state and local efforts to enhance educational opportunities that serve and protect Alaska’s youth.

“Anchorage’s public schools are the foundation of our communities, and their success is directly tied to the future of our city and state,” Bellamy added. “I am committed to ensuring our schools are well-equipped to meet the needs of every student and that we remain focused on solutions that uplift each Anchorage School District educator, family, and student.”
